A Few Good Reasons To Adopt

  • Shelter animals are NOT broken, or bad.  They are just homeless, often hungry, dirty and afraid.  Do not let the cages or the noise stop you from looking for your next pet at the shelter. Many rescues have specific breeds  if you have a preference.  Save a life and add love to your family.
  • Love & regular feedings can make all the difference in the world.

Love & regular feedings can make all the difference in the world.

  • Save a life or two!  Every animal adopted from the shelter is one less killed. That space is valuable because it gives another dog or cat a chance to live. If they are not adopted, county shelters have to kill them to make room for the new animals coming in every day.  County shelters are not allowed to say they are full. They are required to take in strays and any animal that has been surrendered by their owners.

  • Doctors say that you will have a healthier life.  Medical studies have shown that having a pet is physically and mentally better for humans.
  • End Puppy Mills. Never shop for a puppy or kitten in a store that sells live pets. Your money will go to  support  commercial breeders who contribute to the problem of animal overpopulation.

  • Save money.  Shelters often have low adoption rates and many include spaying/neutering and rabies shots. Adopting a shelter dog or cat is much less expensive that buying a pet.

There are often animals who have “sponsors” and their adoption fees will be less,  The shelter may also have adoption specials from time to time.

  • Adopting  is much easier than training a puppy or kitten. Many shelter animals already have some basic training. Cats already know how to use the litter box, and dogs are often house trained , or close.
  • Quality time  – you will have more quality time with a loving family member at your side.

  • Specific breed, purebreds  are available! Approximately 25% of all shelter animals are purebred. Be patient and you will find any breed you choose. Many shelters have a “wish list” for people looking for specific breeds.
  • Increased self-esteem.  You will feel great about yourself knowing that you saved that baby’s life and helped another escape death in the shelter.
  • Set an example of compassion . Others will see what you have done and may choose to do the same.  What better way to teach your children and compassion than to save the life of a homeless animal ? They see what love can do.
  • Shelter animals are grateful and will never forget that you saved them.  They know they were in a bad place, and now they have found a forever home with you.  Your pet will give you unconditional love for as long as they live.

Now, go visit your county shelter or search for a rescue in your area. There are so many homeless animals looking for a loving forever home. You just haven’t found each other yet!
