Many shelters just kill as many animals as they can. That’s what “Animal Control” meant 200 years ago and still means today.
Each year millions of animals are added to our companion animal population by commercial breeders who profit from selling puppies and kittens to pet stores and on the internet. However, more than 70% of all pets in litters are “accidents” and these animals have no place to go in our current system. We know we can reduce that “accidental” population by neutering more animals. Prevention would make a huge difference in the shelter population. So, that’s where we focus our efforts. We are making owners aware of the need to have them neuter their pets. Often, we have to explain the health benefits for their pet in order for them to be properly motivated .
